The Income Tax department of India has made the process a little easy by introducing e-filing of IT returns. The last date for filing the IT returns is usually July 31st of the given year.

Tax payers can submit their IT return online by following the steps given below:

Step 1:
Log on to the IT website: http://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/portal/index.jsp

Step 2:
Register and then create user, which requires PAN Number

Step 3:
Now, again go back to: https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/portal/individual_huf.do
and Download the ITR-1 form, fill in the form properly and then generate the
barcode.

Step 4:
Now, you need to generate the the excel (.xls) file and save it.

Step 5:
Again go to https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/portal/login.do and login

Step 5:
Agter logging in Click on submit return (button).

Step 6:
Now, you will be asked to upload the excel (xls) file. Locate the file on your PC and click on on upload.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has taken up with the Hajj Committee of India the criterion on which to allot the additional 1500 seats provided to the state. This was stated at a high-level meeting presided over by the minister for Hajj and Auqaf, Ajaz Ahmad Khan.

The HCI had allotted an additional quota of 1500 seats for Jammu and Kashmir last week. Today’s meeting had been called to decide whether the additional seats should be allotted through draw of lots and to those dropped earlier or provided to the international passport holders only.

The meeting discussed the option of providing short-term passports to the aspirants. “If the aspirants who don’t have an international passport are selected, then they will be provided the short-term passports. But the issue has to be discussed with the HCI,” said an official attending the meeting, adding that those recommended for short-term passports would be exempted from CID verification.

For this year’s Hajj, the State Hajj Committee had received 21,000 applications of which 6,051 have been selected for the pilgrimage.

Political mercury has suddenly registered a rise in West Bengal as announcement of results of the elections to the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) are coming today.

Political observers are of the opinion that the results of the elections are crucial for the ruling CPM. The results will be an indication to the political parties.

The results are crucial as the politicos are eager to know whether ?wave of change' that started with the general elections and shown its affect in the local body elections is still continues.

Siliguri is considered to be stronghold of the LF, as it emerged victorious in all the SMC polls it contested since 1981. Political analysts said that the division of votes in the Opposition camp lead to the victory of LF.

But the elections are crucial for the opposition camp as the TMC and Congress together fought the elections against the LF.

A Kolkata-based political analyst said that the final picture will be clear after the 2011 assembly elections.
